Explore all of Napa and Sonoma Wine Country from the seat of your bicycle. This four to six day tour takes you from vineyards to the Pacific Coast to the redwood forest and back. We eat at the best local restaurants and relax each night in luxurious hotel accommodations.
Day 1 – Sunday (Arrival)
Early arrivals meet us in Santa Rosa for a bike fitting and an optional self-guided 8 mile warm-up ride. If you’d rather take it easy, you can see the concierge to receive complimentary passes for wine tasting at nearby wineries. You will be staying in the Historic Railroad Square district of Santa Rosa where coffee shops, shopping, and the Charles Schulz Memorial Park are just steps away. This is a great place to settle in and see some of the local culture before we head out on our bicycles.
Day 2 – Monday (Santa Rosa to Bodega Bay)
Our first day riding takes us from Santa Rosa to Bodega Bay, 45 hilly miles. We ride through the scenic Russian River appellation as we head for the coast, journeying through many quaint Northern California agricultural and seaside towns. Our reward for this day is the beautiful fishing village of Bodega Bay, a natural harbor on the coast. We will then settle into the Bodega Bay Lodge, a charming hotel with pool, full service spa, and award winning restaurants nearby. Before dinner, you’ll have time to stroll through town or ride your bike 4 miles to Bodega Head for coastal views.
Your Lodging for the night:Bodega Bay Lodge. Dinner this evening will be on your own. Our goal is to give you freedom and flexibility to select what time you wish to dine, with whom you wish to dine, and which restaurant appeals to you most. Your guide can provide you with a selection of excellent restaurants in the area.
Day 3 – Tuesday (Bodega Bay to Healdsburg)
For many this is the highlight of the trip with a ruggedly scenic 11 mile ride along the Pacific Ocean. We then follow the Russian river inland into beautiful Redwood forests. The majesty of these huge trees is quite apparent along the flat and cool roads as we follow the river to our lunch spot.
We have our lunch at the Armstrong Redwoods State Park and emerge from the redwoods at Korbel Winery, famous for their sparkling wine. We then enter the vineyard lands of the Russian River Valley. Wineries we may visit include Rochioli, Hop Kiln, and Armida. We reach our destination, the small town of Healdsburg after 45 miles of mostly flat and easy terrain. Healdsburg is one of the hottest towns in Wine Country. Before dinner, you will have time to enjoy the downtown plaza and it’s many shops and tasting rooms.
Your Lodging for the night: Hotel Healdsburg Your Dining for the night: TBD. Dry Creek Kitchen, Barndiva, and Willi’s Seafood & Raw Bar are just a couple of options for dinner–we are always on the look out for exciting new restaurants.
Day 4 – Wednesday (Dry Creek Valley)
Our favorite ride of the trip! We start by cycling up the Dry Creek Valley and past many picturesque wineries. We then cross over onto West Dry Creek Road and loop around back to Healdsburg. Along the way we visit wineries such as Lambert Bridge, Quivira, and Preston, among others.
After 20-30 miles of easy cycling, we return to our lodging for a relaxing evening. You will have time in and around the downtown plaza area to continue exploring the local charms of Healdsburg.
Your Lodging for the night: Hotel Healdsburg. Dinner tonight will be on your own. There are several great restaurant options is Healdsburg. Your guides can give recommendations.
Note: Those on the 4 day option leave us after this day of touring
Day 5 – Thursday (Healdsburg to Yountville)
Today we cycle through the scenic and serene Alexander Valley and visit wineries such as Robert Young Estate and deLorimier. The Alexander Valley is famous for Cabernet grapes, much of which goes into the wines you’ve been tasting throughout your trip. After summiting the day’s final peak you will be rewarded with charming town of Calistoga on our way to Yountville, where you will be staying this evening.
Day 6 – Friday (Yountville to Santa Rosa)
On our final day we cycle from Yountville to Santa Rosa, covering 58 miles of easy and flat terrain. We ride south along the Silverado Trail past world famous wineries, making a couple of stops along the way. This is the heart of the Napa Valley and there are hundreds of superb wineries along our route.
We leave the Napa Valley and continue on through the Carneros appellation and then into the Sonoma Valley. We may also choose to stop at a couple of the terrific wineries in the Sonoma Valley. After finishing up the day with a great ride north through the Valley of the Moon, we arrive back at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek in Santa Rosa.
