Why Choose Getaway Adventures for your Wine Country Bike Tour?
Getaway Adventures is the original bike tour company in Napa Valley and Sonoma County. All employees and guides are local to the area and have expertise on wine, restaurants, history, flora, fauna and the best trails and roads to share with you. If you are comparing tour companies, ask the others if they are local to the area and how long they have been in business.
Getaway Adventures has been in business since 1991 with the same owners, and has long standing relations with many hotels and wineries that other companies cannot match. We strive hard to be the best touring company in the area and promise you will have made the right choice in going on tour with us. Our goal is to be an environmentally friendly local tour company that educates our guests on wine and the area and gives you a chance to smell the roses (and zinfandel) and get some exercise too!
We work with all the major hotels in Napa from The Calistoga Ranch to the Meritage Resort and everyone in between
We have more Trip Advisor 5-star reviews than any other bike tour company.

How much should I tip my guide?
Your guides work hard to provide you with an excellent tour experience, interesting wine facts, and a delicious gourmet lunch. For guide tips, we suggest $20-$30 per guest for day tours. For multi-day tours we recommend 10% of the total tour price.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, breathing clothes you can ride in. Layers are best as the mornings can be cooler than the rest of the day. Tennis shoes or similar shoes are great. If you decide to wear pants, please be aware that your right leg will need to be rolled up or cinched about the pants leg to make sure the bike chain does not eat your pants. Don’t forget your sunglasses, sun block and camera!
Wear clothes you do not mind getting wet in. Bathing suits, shorts and t-shirts are best. River shoes or sandals like Tevas are perfect. Don’t forget retainers for your sunglasses, a hat, and we’ll bring the sun block! For more details check out our blog post, Russian River Kayaking: What to Wear?
Are there wine tasting fees and how much do they cost?
Recently more and more wineries are charging wine tasting fees. We try to choose wineries that do not charge, but sometimes it is unavoidable. Wine tasting fees vary from $10 to $25 per person per winery. In most cases you can share a taste (one glass). At some wineries, if you purchase wine you are reimbursed the tasting fee.
What types of bikes will we be using?
On our day tours, we offer Specialized Cross Trail hybrid bikes, with upright handle bars for comfort. They come with a front bags to store your personal items. We also offer touring and road bikes, mountain bikes, cruisers and tandems – let us know if you would prefer to use one of our other bikes. We have a limited supply of clip-less pedals, or can take our pedals off to attach yours. View our bikes here.
What is the difficulty of the bike tours?
The Sip ‘n Cycle routes we choose are geared towards “Energetic Beginners” and are mainly flat with only a few rolling hills here and there. Typically the distance we travel is between 10 to 15 miles at a moderate pace, with stops about every five miles. If you want a higher level of difficulty and more miles, please let us know so we can make the arrangements with your guide!
You may also opt for our Velo ‘n Vino bike tour for a more spirited ride (25 to 40 miles or so).
What is the distance we will ride or paddle?
Our one day tours normally go a distance of 10 to 15 miles. This is spread out over the course of the whole day with many stops at wineries in between.
Most kayaking routes are between 5 to 7 miles.
What is for lunch?
We provide you with a gourmet wine country style picnic. Pasta salad with sun dried tomatoes, pesto and artichoke hearts; tossed green salads with in season vegetables, local artisan cheeses are a few of the items we serve. Our menu varies due to what is in season locally. View our lunch here.
When are the tours available?
Day tours are available 365 days a year, dependent on weather and space; call for availability. Multi-day trips available on demand. Tours are for a minimum of two people. Please note that most wineries are not open on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, but please call our office if you are interested in doing a tour that does not involve wineries on those holidays: 1-800-499-2453.
How many people will be on our tour?
Our public day tours typically have between 6 to 8 people, with the maximum being 12 people. Please call our office for group or private tours, where we can accommodate larger numbers: 1-800-499-2453.
Is there van support for the tour in case I do not want to ride the whole day?
On day tours, our support van is always nearby. We don’t have it following along every minute, but is there in case it is needed for tired riders or other reasons. The guides will be more than happy to bring the van around after your tour to pick up any wine purchases made throughout the day.
Can I buy gift certificates for your tours?
How do I get to and from my Multi-day tour?
You can either rent a car for the week or use public transport options. The San Francisco and Oakland airports have shuttle services which are a quick and comfortable way to get you up to Santa Rosa for the start of the Premiere Trip. We recommend the Sonoma County Airport Express an on the hour shuttle service. We can also work with you to set up private transportation, available for a 2 person minimum starting at $100 per person. Once you have arrived in Santa Rosa we will pick you up for your bike fitting.
We guarantee public day tour departures that meet the two person minimum. Although we do our level best to provide the tour location you choose, we may need to change your tour location dependent upon availability, though we will always keep the distance and ease in mind.
